Types of Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)

There are two types of SAD, or social phobia: generalized SAD and non-generalized SAD.[1] People with non-generalized SAD typically become extremely anxious in certain situations, like giving a presentation at work,[1] while people with generalized SAD may experience debilitating worry in most or all social situations.[1] Anything from eating in a restaurant to going to the doctor can make their symptoms worse.

There are some useful screening tools that can allow a healthcare provider to evaluate anxiety symptoms and their severity in order to determine if a full psychiatric evaluation is warranted.
